Talked to mom yesterday. States Matt was pretty tired because even with the busy days he still doesn't sleep that well. But he still did alright in rehab. Matt tried 4 times to stand, was successful every one and then when pushed him to try the 5th time, ran out of juice. He had lots of spasms so makes it difficult. Mom happened to mention that prior to this week, when Matt spasms his left arm and elbow always remained straight. But now it bends. Not sure whether that is a positive thing or not but I will believe it is for the better. Matt also did his arm cycle exercises. He does it about 20 times, the left arm doesnt't have any weights and the right arm has 2 lbs. I think Matt still gets down about things not happening fast enough. It is easy for me to say what great progress he has made but I don't have to live it 24/7. But Matt, try and focus on what you can do, not on what you can't do. We are so amazed by your accomplishments and you still have a huge cheering section!! Go, Matt, Go!!
Mom was leaving today and dad may not be there yet, as he had to wait until mom got home. The heater in his truck wasn't working so needed mom's vehicle to return to Saskatoon. Not sure how today went but will find out tomorrow.
I noticed that Bev was wondering what sort of goodies Matt likes. He doesn't like baked goods that much but really likes oatmeal/banana cookies, chocolate macaroons (mudpies), and ginger snaps. Jesus talks about food to his disciples in Mark 7:19 "For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this Jesus declared all foods clean). Now I think that is as good as reason as any to have some cookies!!

Hey Matt,
We are all still out here cheering you on...not always posting, but always watching and cheering , as I know all of your other "fans" are. We have the Grey Cup....the Super Bowl was exciting.... we watch the Oilers new owner promise great things for our "fav" hockey team....Curling is just around the corner (go team Simmons) but you know....you are still the one we are all cheering for the most. That's because your determination and drive and all your hard work comes from you and your heart. No one is paying you to perform... it's your own inner strength that is moving you onward and upward every day, and is what is making us all cheer you on. GO Matt!

Hi Matt I live in a little town called Blue River BC. We out here have lots of snow, and still falling,we can hardly see our neighbours.I also work at a Heliskiing Lodge. Read your blog everyday and I also am very impressed as how you are coming along. I'am a cousin of your Dads. Your Dads Mom was my Dads sister. I do not write much, but I read it faithfully. Wish You Well And Keep Up The Great Work
Hi Matthew and whichever parent is with you at this time. I have a hard time keeping up to your mom and dad. Ha!
Orest & Trevor are busy hauling grain in this cool weather. I hear it was really COLD here last week when we were in 34 degree weather in Mexico. Didn't miss the cold weather at all.
Don't get discouraged Matt when things seem to be going slow for you. We don't always understand why things are the way they are but there is a reason and a purpose. God is always there for you.
Take care and chat with you soon. You should write on the comments too so that we can all hear from you. That would be a treat.
Love Aunty Sandy & Uncle Orest
Hi Matty.
I can only imagine how hard you are working to achieve what you have already.
The amount of concentration and determination that you possess is beyond most people's comprehension.
Keep it up you amazing young man!
I am so proud of you!
Please say hi to your family.

Glad you like ginger snaps because I do have an awesome recipe for them. Hopefully I remember to bake some and bring them up when I come. I'm a little like you and don't really like cakes and cookies all that much either. Now pie, that's another story - right!

Hi Matt,
Well it is nearly 5pm here, I had attempted early this morning to send a comment. I do not know why sometimes it does not process.
Anyway, we certainly echo Myra's words, and are out here cheering for you daily, sorry life does not always allow the time to let you know.
I was wondering,do you ever visualize all the homes, work places, schools, churches, restaurants etc, etc. that the name Matt Gustafson is brought up?? Do your ears not buzz? Those who know you speak with such pride, for you are truly a treasure, an inspiration. YOU LIGHT UP OUR LIVES I bet most of us don't whine half as much over 'the small things' that agitate us in our daily lives anymore. And that's because this six foot seven young man daily shows us what keep on - keeping on,is really all about.
You are entitled to be discouraged , have off days, you are human like all the rest of us. Lack of sleep sucks, and can really wear the spirit down. We know that**THIS TOO SHALL PASS** a phrase I pinned on my fridge years ago, when we had three in diapers, disposables were rare. It was really a trial when the old washing machine cratered and washing by hand was the ticket.
We are all watching, praying, marveling at how you are progressing. How well I remember the day your mom phoned and told us of your accident. The tears and pain in a parents heart is so easy to read, even over the phone, I felt like I was being suffacated. Even so, there was this mutual faith and the knowing to place you in God's hands. I have often felt bad as I remember telling her that she must brace herself in case total healing was not meant to be. I know that sounds like lack of faith, but I never pray that way. I Never say NEVER, for how do any of us know His will in each matter?
Today I once again smile at that NEVER word, as once upon a time, when we told some people we were getting married, they said it will never last six months. Guess what?? Today we are celebrating our forty fourth anniversary, and I'm still nuts about the guy. Matt, I wish you could feel the hugs that are sent your way as people read the blog each day. We love you, God bless.

Matt-just a note to say hi and to say they plowed the road! We picked your mom up and went to watch Wade play(your team!) and the road was heavy with snow still falling and by the time the game was over they had gone with the plow. Your crew won and it was a good game to watch. Keep working and have some surprises up your sleeve when mom gets back-she's counting the days!!Take care and keep smiling. yy
STAY!!!!
I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the
Super Wal-Mart Shopping Center and rolled
down the car windows to make sure my
Labrador Retriever Pup had fresh air.
She was stretched full-out on the back seat
and I wanted to impress upon her that she must
remain there! I walked to the curb backward,
pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically,
'Now you stay. Do you hear me?'
'Stay! Stay!'
The driver of a nearby car, a pretty blonde young lady,
gave me a strange look and said,
'Why don't you just put it in park?'
