Matt is going to Weekes tomorrow to attend the sports day. It is hard to believe it is almost the one year anniversary of the accident. Matt was a bit sad today thinking about what he was doing on this day last year and how quickly it all changed on June 30th.
Tuesday: Matt was able to try out the standing frame again. Always dizzy the first go but on the 2nd try was able to stand 8-10 mins. He doesn't wear the knee brace when he is in the frame because his knees are pushed right against the frame. Tried out the muscle stim on the left arm and also on the left calf muscle. The reason they are doing this is to try on get Matt's foot to lift up towards the ceiling. Still drags his toe. Found out something interesting. Matt is always saying is neck and left shoulder are sore. So did an x-ray and discovered he has a sublixation, or separation of the shoulder. His muscle is not strong enough to hold his bones so needs a rest. Mom has to go and buy a binder at some medical supply store to hold his shoulder from moving too much.
Wednesday: did something cool while he was laying in bed. Matt put his shirt on all by himself. It took him 25 minutes but he did it! We are so proud of you, Matty! God never said it would be easy, He just gives you the strength to persevere. Romans
5:3-5 "Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
Today: Matt had a bath, and I can always tell because his hair looks so shiny! Did some more transferring, and mom said he looks stronger. Feeling tired but felt better in the afternoon. Still has antibiotics for one more day than is finished. Stood with the standing frame again. The first time up was dizzy but remained standing for 5 minutes, The second time stood for 6 minutes. Mom said they even forgot his abdomen binder and he still did well. Then Matt had to work but was rewarded with a pizza, which he almost ate by himself.
I can't say it enough, you always astound me with your patience and fortitude. When I grow up, I want to be just like you! (Of course, that will never happen...the growing up part I mean!)

Mom Is Back
So much to write about so here we go!
Friday was very unproductive. Matt hasn't been feeling like eating until supper time, and after he gets his supper meds he feels better. He didn't have any rehab because all his therapists were gone. It might have something to do with it being 26 degrees. So warm Matt had a little burn when he was outside.
Saturday Matt went with dad to watch 10 and 12 year olds play baseball. He said they are definitely in need of practice and coaching. However I told him what it was like watching him play hockey when he was young. We would cheer like crazy if he would touch the puck once the whole game. The rest of the time we would be yelling at him to stop looking in the windows at his reflection! Feeling better today. Took Gravol in the am so was able to eat lunch. (Just an update that Matt is off his sleeping pills since he was home for Grandma's funeral and is still suffering with a urinary tract infection and they have switched antibiotics). For exercise dad took the legs off is power chair and practiced straightening his legs.
Sunday watched some more ball. Said it was not much better. Good to get outside.
Monday Matt was in the pool again. First he starts out by sitting on the edge of the bed with help. Then he has to transfer on to a trolley like mechanism so they can wheel him down to the pool. The trolley hooks up to the pool lift. There is no ramp into the pool so can't use a wheelchair. Then they lower him into the pool and put noodles under his back and arms, another under his hips, so he is laying horizontal. Then to stand, they put weights on Matt's ankles.
Matt also did some mat exercises. First he transfers from his chair to the mat with the help of one staff member and dad pulls the chair back, which is an improvement. Matt said he surprised himself today by sitting over the edge of the bed for over 6 minutes. First the therapists get him into a sitting position, put his hands beside him and tell him to balance himself. He tried to lift his legs at the same time however he almost fell over.
Did some muscle stim on his left elbow to get it to bend. Practiced with the hand putty and there was a noticeable imprint in the putty so more strength in his left hand. Keep working hard, Matt. Don't give up faith. Remember the story of Peter on the boat. Jesus was walking towards the boat on the water and Peter started to walk towards Him. However when the wind started blowing and he focused on his physical environment, he became scared and started to sink. Jesus reached out his hand to Peter and saved him, saying "You of little faith, why did you doubt? (Matthew 14:27-31) Don't focus on earthly things to maintain your faith, just look up!
