Home Tomorrow

Matt is going to Weekes tomorrow to attend the sports day. It is hard to believe it is almost the one year anniversary of the accident. Matt was a bit sad today thinking about what he was doing on this day last year and how quickly it all changed on June 30th.
Tuesday: Matt was able to try out the standing frame again. Always dizzy the first go but on the 2nd try was able to stand 8-10 mins. He doesn't wear the knee brace when he is in the frame because his knees are pushed right against the frame. Tried out the muscle stim on the left arm and also on the left calf muscle. The reason they are doing this is to try on get Matt's foot to lift up towards the ceiling. Still drags his toe. Found out something interesting. Matt is always saying is neck and left shoulder are sore. So did an x-ray and discovered he has a sublixation, or separation of the shoulder. His muscle is not strong enough to hold his bones so needs a rest. Mom has to go and buy a binder at some medical supply store to hold his shoulder from moving too much.
Wednesday: did something cool while he was laying in bed. Matt put his shirt on all by himself. It took him 25 minutes but he did it! We are so proud of you, Matty! God never said it would be easy, He just gives you the strength to persevere. Romans
5:3-5 "Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
Today: Matt had a bath, and I can always tell because his hair looks so shiny! Did some more transferring, and mom said he looks stronger. Feeling tired but felt better in the afternoon. Still has antibiotics for one more day than is finished. Stood with the standing frame again. The first time up was dizzy but remained standing for 5 minutes, The second time stood for 6 minutes. Mom said they even forgot his abdomen binder and he still did well. Then Matt had to work but was rewarded with a pizza, which he almost ate by himself.
I can't say it enough, you always astound me with your patience and fortitude. When I grow up, I want to be just like you! (Of course, that will never happen...the growing up part I mean!)

Hey Matt,

Glad they finally figured out why your neck is so sore all the time. Hopefully things will get better in that area shortly. Nothing like being in constant pain.

Hear you're coming to Michelle's wedding. I think we'll have to set up a pile of fans in the church as I hear it's going to be a hot day. See you then.
