Monday Matt finally had another haircut. he was starting to look like the shaggy dog! Monday he also worked in group doing upper extremity work and pulleys. That was about the extent of rehab because he wasn't feeling well.
Tuesday Matt was supposed to go on the Argyl but something got screwed up so instead he showed the new therapist how far he could push himself in his manual wheelchair. Matt estimated the distance at 200 feet. It took him along time and had to stop a few times. He was so tired that after lunch he went to sleep and didn't wake up until 4 pm! Good workout Matt! I asked how his shoulder was feeling afterwards and said it wasn't too bad, so thank you Lord for answered prayers.
Today Matt was able to get up in the argyl machine, or the sit stand for about 3-4 mins, however he had to sit down due to his fall in BP, 80/48. He didn't feel that bad and his O2 level was at 99%, but they decided not to push it. Matt finds it easier to breathe in the sit stand machine as opposed to the standing frame. The frame has a strap that goes around his chest and he can't take a deep breath. His lungs are still not what they were before being on the ventilator and so still does his deep breathing exercises to strengthen his lungs.
I was laughing at him tonight on Skype because he lifted up his left hand with his right hand so I could look at it. It looks as black as the ace of spades! His right hand is more a normal color, but his lack of mobility and all the edema he had while in ICU has changed his pigmentation. Anyone who has seen Matt will know what I am talking about.

Birthday Weekend

A celebrating weekend for the Gustafson clan. Yesterday was dad's birthday and today is Shaunie's 4th birthday so all excited. She doesn't quite understand it is her birthday and trying to work on telling her she is 4 but didn't have much luck with the 3rd one either. High of 30 degrees today so will be melting.
Matt has been busy with his argyl exercises, strengthening his quads, bending his knees, and using his arms and back to help him stand as well. He said everyday he does well but on Friday was doing his exercises and got dizzy after a few reps.
Thursday Matt had his bone density test. They wanted to see if he had lost any bone mass due to lack of weight bearing exercises. However they feel he hasn't lost any so that is good news if he wants to go to project walk. Mom also left on Thursday to go back to work. Of course she is always working, but this job she gets paid for!!
God bless everyone on this beautiful Sunday!
