Blue Day

I could have written last night but was feeling blue regarding some news Matt received yesterday so I decided things always look brighter in the morning so I waited. Matt and mom attended a "Family Conference" to talk about the plans for Matt. They kept asking Matt what he wanted to do when he was discharged and what his plans are. He would just say "I want to feel better". So for now the discharge date from rehab is Feb. 29 (one day after his 21st birthday). They meeting was very discouraging because they feel that they have taken Matt as far as he will go and that he hasn't progressed in the last month. They really pointed at the fact that when we took him home, it was against their wishes and we had set him back. After the meeting Matt was feeling like a burden, that recovery may very well be impossible. I have a few things to say to you Matt. They are just human, and no one knows what the future will hold. Ephesians 6 tells us to put on the full armor of God, take up your shield of faith, because faith in the Lord gives you hope. He has done so much for you Matty, sometimes it seems so long ago that we forget.
And in regards of Matthew not progressing this last month, he can now write his name, not just print it, he plays Sudoku?(not sure how to spell it) and fill in the letter spaces himself, he can lift his right leg off the bed for a few seconds, and is gaining strength in his left arm. So Matt, you do not have to feel like there is no progress. But you do not have to do it yourself. Call on Him for the strength to continue, and every time you have rehab, ask him to carry you past the moment of stopping. Show them what the Lord and you can do together. Ephesians 6:16-18 "...take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests."

Matthew - don't you ever give up hope. We all hear so many wonderful stories of success. A fellow from our church fell off his combine a few years ago and they told him he would never walk again - well, guess what? Every Sunday he walks into church, with the aid of his canes, by himself. You have no idea what God has in store for you, so you just keep trying and do your rehab every day.

Love and prayers to you and all your family. We are with you every step of the way.

Love Aunty Sandy & Uncle Orest

Matt & Family,
It's a hard reality to know that the health system can only go so far to help with ongoing rehabilitation. We went through the same thing. But when I took Sarah home, we discovered God, family, friends, school,& community did more than we ever expected & this continues to this day. Help comes from many unexpected sources, so keep up the struggle. Savour every gain you make, no matter how small, because each one leads you closer to your goal. Barry, Cynthia, & Sarah

If no one ever tried.. nothing would have ever been accomplished or invented by anyone on this planet. There's alternative therapy...from mud baths..to spring waters to...energy treatments. Who says you have to follow the norm?

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."

Hi Matt,
As we talked about during our last visit, you have progressed so much from the first time I came to see you. We even got to play some catch. Keep fighting. I'm still praying for ya,

Kelvin

Matt-Bryce and I were thinking of the words to a song tonight that fits your situation...the chorus goes ...Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand; But I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand--Just remember that He is there for you moment by moment and you can call out to him at any time-keep your chin up and keep smiling thru the cloudly times and the sun will shine again! We definately seen improvement when we visited last week and enjoyed our time with you.

Matt and family, always remember to belive in yourself, there will be days of doubt, but take each day as a new day, don't worry about what will happen a month from now, just do your best each day and the rest will follow. Just believe....everyone is cheering you on.

Matt's hard work and determination, plus a little bit of what I suspect is sheer stubborness has already gotten him farther than any Dr. ever thought possible. For them to even make the comment "they have taken Matt as far as he will go" is completely ridiculous!

One of my ball coaches used to tell us to focus on our potential instead of our limitations...Any more talk like that from those Dr's and I will be sending her over to pay them a visit!!

Keep working Matt and don't ever let yourself be limited by goals that someone else sets for you.

Matt;

Continue to work as you have been, and you never know what the future will hold. It is amazing how far you have come and I truly believe that you aren't done yet!

We had a family friend who they told would never even be able to tie his shoes, and you should have seen what a produtive lift he led.

Keep your head held high, and that big smile on your face!

Love ya, and hello to all your family!
