Just talked to mom while she was on her way to get a sub from Subway, the big baby. Unfortunately when he comes to Red Deer after he is discharged from Parkridge he will have to put up with my cooking!
On Friday they tried something new on the sit stand machine. Before they would put Matt almost to a standing position and then have him use his legs to get him to full standing position. Now they make him do a partial squat, or bend his knees so his bum goes down. It is much harder but Matt really tries hard. He also does it with no brace on his left leg, which is getting stronger.
Monday Matt had group therapy at 10 am. Then practiced on the sit stand machine again. They don't really time him anymore, because he is doing the squats to strengthen his quads.
Today they tried a sit stand machine they were hoping to send Matt home with but he is just too big, so they will have to order one and then Matt will pay for it. The cost is $6000 and insurance will cover about $2000. They also want Matt to purchase a special $4000 mattress to prevent bedsores as well, but the new manual wheelchair costs around $8000,so have to hold back on something for now.
He wasn't feeling that well today, his shoulder really bugs him when he tries too hard at rehab and then he doesn't sleep well. But he still did really well in rehab and they had him on the mat. They wanted to see if Matt could move his left leg without the resistance of his right leg. Difficult to explain but I will try.
They get Matt to lay on his right side. Then they attach him to 3 ropes suspended from the ceiling and have slings on the end. The first goes under his thigh, the second under his knee and the third goes under his ankle. Then they pull on the ropes to suspend his left leg above the right, while laying on his side. Matt has to then try and straighten his left leg and then bend his knee, after he must try leg curls, and finally he works on the ankles, which is the hardest one of all. It is still slow, he can push down with his toes but not pull them upwards. They tried the same thing on his left arm with little success.
We are all still rooting for you Matt and pray everyday God will give you the strength to continue on your journey. 2 Samuel 22:33-34 "It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights." You will get there Matt, we believe with all our hearts.

Good explanation Shelley - you did an excellent job. It made me tired just reading about all the things you are doing, Matthew.

Glad to hear you are working hard and that things are improving. We knew it would be a long journey but you are certainly doing your very best to reach your final goal. We are all so very proud of you.

It is cloudy today and had a little shower this morning. Hoping for a little more rain before combining starts. I had to water my garden yesterday - it was getting dry. My garden is not as good as Shelley's. I guess she has a green thumb (which I don't).

Talk to you soon.

Good Morning Matt and family,
Haven't been on in a while, busy with holidays and all. Emma is enjoying the summer in Porcupine with her dad and grandma, too quiet at home though. Jodi is starting college in Lloyd this fall, will be nice to have her closer. Robbie and Aimee are still in S'toon, both working way too much, but it's nice to see the ambition.
Sure good to read Matt, you are working so hard, and the progess just keeps coming. That's great that you get to go to Shelley's when you get released, although I'm not sure she's going to spoil you quite like your mom does. lol
Take care Matt, cheers to you for all your hard work.
Hi to Joanne
