Sunday: Matt had a tough day on Sunday. Nothing was going well. Everything was bothering him and his neck was really sore. He did not eat anything all day. Dad was feeling bad for Matt and the nurse finally told dad to go home, take a break, and the staff would feed Matt when he got up from his afternoon nap. She said knowing Matt he was just having an off day, and would bounce right back tomorrow. Sure enough that is just what happened. However it is good to know that Matt has far fewer psychological "off" days than others in his position, so he is still pretty positive.
Monday: Matt really picked up today. By the time dad got there in the morning he was up in his chair wanting to eat! And he didn't stop eating all day. The occupational therapist worked with Matt in his room playing games and watching how he could brush his teeth and wash his face. She tried a peg board with small dime size pieces that he had to move, and he did very well. After lunch the physio therapist took Matt to the mat to assess his functional capacity again, just to see if there was any difference from the last one he had before Christmas. tThey stated Matt was gaining in what he could do, that his strength was improving however slowly.
Thanks again to everyone who comes to visit and writes on the blog. Also a great big heartfelt thank you to all who came Dec. 29th hockey game in Porcupine. It was so great for Matt not to think of hospitals and rehab for a short while and it lifted his spirits. We are unsure of the final tally but it was well over $5000. It is a real blessing and can help in so many ways.

Hi Matthew. Glad to hear that you and your dad are both having better days. You both looked tired on Saturday. Keep up with the rehab and working hard. I know it is easier said than done, but you can do it. It will be nice to have your mom back with you soon. Take care.
Love Aunty Sandy
Hi, so many times after Christmas many of us feel down, it's quite normal. I was reading in a devotional this morning, rather lengthy but sort of put things back into perspective for me, thought I might share it in the hopes that it might give some encouragement as you head into 2008
What is yout life like right now? Perhaps, not so sunny and bright as we all know adversity can strike at any time, like a storm that blows in, unexpected and unwelcome. How do we maintain a sense of peace and spiritual balance when trials hit?
The answer is found in a close, abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. The words of Helen Lemmel's classic hymn. "Turn your eyes upon Jesus" contain a vital truth: Unshakeable peace is available to all who turn the eyes of their heart to the Lord.
When adversity strikes, it's normal to wonder why and to question how life will be affected. But we should also respond by turning to the One who has all comfort and security firmly within His grasp - The only One equipped to handle our problems. God never intended us to be strong on our own; He wants us to find courage, hope, and strength in Him and His Word.
When we're under pressure, we all want relief from anxious feelings. One of the first steps is to recognize anxiety for what it is - the opposite of peace. It fans the flames of doubt and confusion and can leave us helplessly caught up in worry and fear. When we cave in to apprehension, we lose our spiritual focus. The key to overcoming anxiety is found only in the presence of the Lord.
Phillippians 4:6-7 encourages us: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus."
Accepting God's timetable and the limitations He places on a given situation (1 Corinthians 10:13) helps to dispel rising anxiety. Therefore, let Him provide for you in His perfect timing. Remember, He loves you and is in complete control, even when circumstances appear hopeless. If you accept life as a gift from His hand, then you will be doing what Helen Lemmel's song says - turning your eyes towards Jesus. As you look into His glorious face, you'll find mercy and grace, forgiveness and hope, peace and everlasting security. cg
