New Day

Much better day, but did receive a bit of bad news. Matt has an infection called C. Diff., which is a very potent bug that can really hit people in Matt's condition. He must now be in isolation and not many people will be able to visit, and he will not be allowed out of his room for up to a week. This certain "bug" causes lots of vomiting and diarrhea, so will make him weak and dehydrated. However they started him on the right antibiotics for it and are monitoring him closely. He slept until noon because of his night, and managed to eat a little soup without throwing up. They had to put him on a new medication for his spasms. When they try to do his exercises, the spasms are inhibiting his range of motion. The side effects are not great. He has stopped moving his left fingers and he has numbness in his right hand. Not sure which is worse. But they did hook him up to a shoulder sling, which allows him to bring a spoon (that is hooked to his right hand with elastics) to his mouth. They tried ice cream and the therapist put it on his spoon, but Matt managed to get it to his mouth a few times. First time to feed himself in over 3 months. Great job Matty! They will not do any trach trials until the infection clears up, but they are still deflating the cuff for 2 hours so he can talk. Goodness and mercy can be found, if we just look. Hebrews 4:16 "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us our time of need."

Oh, Matthew, I wish you didn't have to go through all these trials, but thanks be to God you will make it.Isolation won't be very nice but you can do it. Just keep positive and there are a lot of people praying for you, many you don't even know' so you will be fine. All the old people at Aunt Evelyn's Manor ask about you every day. So I make sure that Aunt Evelyn is kept posted. Our house still hasn't sold.Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!! And as Shelley said we should all be more thankful all the time. Thanksliving!!! Love Auntie Ardis and Uncle Ken.

Hey Matthew...so sorry to hear about the infection, sucks that you won't have all the visitors that you have been having. But at least they have figured out what it is and hopefully when it clears up the vomitting will stop and you can start gaining some weight back!

Must feel good to feed yourself again...it has been a while!!

Get lots of rest and get rid of that infection!! Keep up the great work!! Take Care, love to all. Happy Thanksgiving!

Love Heather

Sorry to hear you are in isolation Matt but if you have a bad bug you will need all the rest you can get so you have the energy to fight it - good you can talk with that off and tell them how you feel - even if everyone was getting good at lip reading! We prayed they would find out the problem of vomiting and I guess they have so hang in there and that food will taste better than ever - then you can pack on the pounds! The drilling guys moved out today - round up is going okay-Denise and Darryl will be here tomorrow and the rest the next day-praying for you-so thankful for the blog - hi ma and pa!

Good Morning Matt,

It's 3:39 a.m. - yes, that's right. I've been wide awake since around 2:30 a.m. and can't sleep, even though I'm tired. Sure hope you're getting some good shut eye.

Infections are not great, but at least they discovered why you have all the up chucking. Now maybe they can get that straigtened around for you so that you can eat.

Wow - feeding yourself. Bet that was nice.

We continue to pray as you go through all these tough times. We'd of course like it all to be faster as I'm sure you do too, but our timing isn't always what happens.

Daniel and his wife Erin are coming home this weekend, as is Larissa and her boyfriend and his sister and so we will have a full house.

Reg is still combining - just the sweet clover left to do. The odd little shower here and there always puts this back a little once again. Then again, if we had it our way, it would be plus 25 for about a week straight and we'd be done. Must pray towards that end as well.

You take care and get over that bug. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and hopefully you can have some turkey and stuffing (that's if you like stuffing) etc.

Love the Hertz clan!

Have had a good visit with grandma and she is asking lots of question about you and your mom.. wondering if you are both OK.. lots for her to grasp, but she seems to understand all tht is going on. Of course she beat me at dice again over and over and over. Not sure what i have to do. Anyway Matt we will be in Saskatoon again tomorrow - so hopefully we can see you but if not we will see your mom and she can pass on our hugs. Hang in there - this infection will clear as the other have. Praying for you - and yes giving thanks for the progress you have made..
