Better Day
Matt's breathing improved a bit today. He was able to breath on his own 3 times, 45 min, 1 hour, 40 min. They are really trying to push him to change the way he breathes. With a spinal cord injury like Matt's, he is unable to use the same muscles you normally use for breathing, so instead your diaphragm is working harder, and he must learn to use his shoulders to breathe. He does much better when he is in his chair, but they are finding he is still to tall for it. Unfortunately they cannot order a custom made chair for him until September, so that is one huge prayer request. Also, the neck brace is a little too small as well, and they cannot make him one because of his trach. So prayers for a solution are needed. Matt 7:7"Ask and it shall be given onto you, seek and yea shall find, knock and the door shall be open unto you".

Matt, we're glad you had a little better day. I'm sure that it's tough. A whole new set of learning to do. We're praying for you big time as well as the rest of the family. Hopefully they can get the right kind of neck brace as well as the right kind of chair for you.
Take care. The Hertz family.
Hi Matt, I always thought being tall would be so nice, but when I hear about the troubles you are having with things fitting maybe it would not be so good all the time. You hang in there Matt, I believe you are going to make a full recovery. God is on your side and there with you every step of the way, make sure you lean on Him for support and strength. I hope that hospital has enough food to get that weight back on when you can eat proper food. We think about you pretty much all the time, but not when we have a break down. Praying for your speedy recovery. Trust in the Lord Matt.

Good Morning Matthew
Shauna & I had a good trip back to P.A. Little Jada wasn't crazy about it though. She just wanted out of her car seat.
It was so good to see you yesterday. It was wonderful to be able to communicate with you without the ventilator in your mouth.
You are just as handsome as ever, you sweet man you! You watch out for all those pretty young nurses there.
God bless you each and every day Matthew. One of your nurses commented what a willing and good patient you are. He also made a comment about how lucky you are to have your mom with you all the time.
We will see you again this Sunday afternoon.
We love you Matthew.
Love Aunty Sandy
HI Matt and family,
GREAT to hear that you are breathing more on your own and for longer periods of time. Remember...take one step at a time and celebrate each step...
We are planning on coming down to Saskatoon next Friday (Aug 3) and hope to have a visit with you and your mom. Until then we will continue to keep updated on your progress. Barry often wanted to be taller, but with hearing all the issues of finding things that fit he might be happy to be so short!
Love, Barry and Gisele
Hi Matt;
Good to hear that you are breathing better, and that you are able to go longer periods of time. It will be no time at all before you are off the ventilator all together...what a happy day that will be. I wish I could make you a chair that would fit!! Keep up the positive attitude, and remember - you can do anything!
We will see you soon...take care!! Love you. Say hi to everyone for me, and we will see them soon too...
Love Heather
