Small Blessings

Mom states Matt had a little better day physically. He was able to breathe on is own twice, 10 mins. then 15. His temp was high all day, above 39 degrees, but finally went down in the evening. They started him on a new antibiotic, which we pray will do the trick. Also, they are going to try him on a new sleeping pill, he is just not getting enough sleep. They did move him back to a room with a TV, which is great. But more importantly, Matt's spiritual healing took a big leap. A christian nurse looked after him who seemed to understand Matt's fears and explained that medical science can only do so much, but belief in God has no boundaries. He prayed with Matt and told him he must not only ask for God's help, but also believe with all his heart. Matt seemed to relax more and his attitude perked up. James 1:5-6 "If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind".

Awesome to have a Christian nurse tend to Matt's needs. And how true, that we need to depend on God totally in every circumstance. Hopefully, the new antibiotics work and that the new sleeping pill will give him the much needed rest.

Still praying!

Dear Matt,

We have been following your progress every day. We hope and pray that these new medications work for you.

The power of the mind is EXTREMELY powerful. Thank God that there is a medical person there that can nurture that in you.

Keep fighting! We believe in you!

Hey Matt - How about those Riders!

I was listening to the game as I drove a Timberline bus load of Cadets from Regina to Melfort today.
I thought about how you (and most everyone in Saskatchewan) were so down after their first loss - I am hoping that the game today gave you a boost!

Keep working at that breathing - I'm thinking that someday soon things are going to start going your way and then there will be no holding you back.

After I saw you at RUH I went over to City Hospital see how Gary Bratton (our school division building supervisor) was doing, You probably have heard that he fell down stairs at his home in Bjorkdale in June and damaged vertebrae in his neck. He had surgery, like yours, to fuse vertebrae. He was in a wheelchair but he has been walking for a couple of weeks now - his left leg is still quite weak so he has been wearing a brace on it.

Gary told me that the doctors said they believed that the part of his spinal cord that was severed was the part that allowed his brain to move his legs.
Guess they were wrong!
He was unable to move anything below his chest until 2 weeks after his accident.
One day he was able to move his toes a little and soon he was moving both legs.

I am hoping and praying that things go as well for you - SOON!

Hang In, Buddy!

he's right, medical science can only go so far. we must all trust in god in every thing we do. matt, have faith in the lord for he will help you through this. you're a strong person, and through god, you will be stronger. i have faith in you, and in god, and i know -- as everyone else does -- you will be okay.

and as the riders proved in their kick ass win against the eskimos (after their horrible, embarrassing defeat) ... miracles do happen. :) haha

so hang in there buddy... we're rooting for ya and god will get you through!
