Wonderful Busy Day
Matt had a really good day today!!! First of all, he had an excellent sleep last night which let him feel refreshed and alert today. Second, he really enjoyed getting his hair washed with real shampoo (not hospital guk!), and his teeth brushed with Crest (they previously used peroxide - ugh!). Then after dinner, they hospital staff capped off the trach for 50 minutes, which means that he was able to breath on his own with no assistance - way to go Matt! After this, they did a swallowing assessement with some ice cubes, and he did okay with that. If all goes well they will do another big swallowing and chewing assessment on Monday. Finally, the highlight of his day was he was able to get up in the Wheelchair and take a little trip outside. He was so trilled to be outside for the first time in 3 weeks. The only downside to the day is that Matt has a slight temperature again this evening and he is so afraid of pneumonia getting worse again. Please pray for Matthew to stay calm and let his body get rid of this infection. Psalms 57:1-2 "Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in my soul takes refuge. I will refuge in the shadow of your wings untils the disaster has passed. I cry out to God most High, to God, who fullfills his purpose for me".

How wonderful to hear that you finally had a good day Matt!!! After a string of bad luck it must feel really encouraging to have things starting to go well again! Good for you!
Keep working hard at things, believing in yourself and continue to be the courageous person we all know you are! Keep your hope and faith up Matt, not only in God but just as importantly, in YOURSELF!
Things are already starting to take a turn for the better for you, which just proves that there most definately is hope!
Take care and I wish you more good days to come (I know there will be!)

Good for you Matt! You have made some really great progress, you and your family really should be proud of all that you have done. TOGETHER! Everytime that I read this blog, (which thank-you John and Jacki for updating for us.) I have a bit of a chuckle when you talk about finding supplies for Matt. It reminds me of a time when Matt came to the hosp. with a hockey injury. ( Matt you and I have to quit seeing each other there okay.) The Dr did some Xrays on this 6 foot teen and then proceeded to tell him that his growth plates weren't done growing yet. I will not forget the look on your face that night Matt, then you couldn't wait to tell your mom that you weren't done growing. But its good to know that someone makes w/c and braces for you.
Take care Matt and the rest of the family. Keep up the good work!!

Hi Matt,
I know I see you most every day but I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you for the strength you have shown this last couple of weeks...You are truly a remarkable young man and a joy in our family!!! One of my favorite verses I want to share with you is from Isaiah 40:31 "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint" I love you lots Matty and I pray that you will just call on Jesus name to renew your strength and that HE would Bless you each day with continued health!!!
YAHOO! Way to go Tree! :) haha its great how well ur doin! :D cant wait to see you again!
